Free New York State Electronic Fishing Maps
Over 1000 bodies of water across New York state are now plotted on www.ActivityGuidebook.com. ActivityGuidebook.com is a Google Maps based electronic guidebook for outdoor enthusiasts. Users plot fishing spots, campgrounds, trails, and other points of interest on an interactive map. These locations can be augmented with descriptions, weblinks, reviews, photos and other maps & diagrams.
Fish Stocking Data
New York State fish stocking data. About 900 lakes, rivers, streams, creeks and resevoirs and updated with their 2005, 2006 fish stocking data. In addition, the expected 2007 stocking data for trout is also included.
Different Map Views
Satellite - View the terrain using the popular Google Earth satellite imagery.
Map - The Google streets and maps view so you can easily find your way to the water body.
US Topographic - Switch to topographic view to gain a better appreceation of the land. This is vital for fishing creeks and rivers, or planning a trip to the back country.
US Aerial - A detailed aerial picture of the terrain is available even when the satellite data is not.
Maps/Diagram - User added maps and diagrams can be attached to each location. For example, there are hundreds of hydrographic maps attached to popular fishing destinations across New York.
Accessing the Site
Go to ActivityGuidebook.com and zoom the map in to the New York State region. As you zoom in, more details will appear. You can then pick a water body to get extra detail such as; the species available in the water, stocking data, or hydrographic maps. Here is an example location in the Adirondack Park Preserve -Upper Saranac Lake.
You Can Help
It is easy to add locations, post reviews, photographs, etc. Go to your home lake and ensure it is marked properly and include a boat ramp. If you like, simply check out the user forum and introduce yourself. We want to make this a useful site, so your input is much appreciated.
